This website was designed to bring together
the owners, collectors, riders and enthusiasts of the Harley
Davidson (1977-1978) sportster model XLCR - production cafe racer
motor cycles. These have become the one of the most sought after
Harley Davidson's on the vintage market, and we would like to
preserve the future of the XLCR cafe racer by Harley Davidson.
The
motorcycles and parts needed to keep these particular bikes on the
road and restoration project progressing for years to come.
Willie
D. Davidson - the designer and lead of styling at Harley Davidson in
the 1970's had a vision of the XLCR cafe racer experiment that was
brought to reality. Using the XR-150 technology and information we
have today we have been able to produce a very elegant and brutish
sportster in all black with siamese dual exhaust system and gold tank
badges with gold AMF sidecover - oil tank stickers. I also had a
quarter fairing and windshield with low gated gas tank, along with
extended XR
rear seat tail bed.
This
motorcycle was the first to use 7 spoke Morris Mags front 19 inch
and 18 inch rear wheels along with GOODYEAR raised white letter
tires. The 77-78 XLCR was the fastest and quickest sporster models
produced at that time.
There
were 1,923 produced in 1977 and 1,201 produced in 1978 and only 9
produced in early 1979. These did not make it to the public or any
sales floors. My questions to you are the following:
How
many XLCR's are still out there on the road or in the hands of
collectors, and what shape are they in?
What
is the status of the total 3133 XLCR cafe racer produced by Harley
Davidson in 1977-79?
We
ask that you please help us gather this information by contacting us
below with any information you might have. Please state the year,
serial number and owner of the bike. Thank you.
